Summer School Day 4: Ombré

One of our favorite regular educational series is our set of Summer School classes. Understanding and internalizing different design concepts allows you to bring your ideas to life. With a little practice, these ideas will quickly become intuitive, leading your card designs to come together with minimal effort.

During this series, we’ll bring you videos and projects designed to help you understand these basic principles, and incorporate them into your own crafting. Not only do you get to put your student hat on, your participation means you also are in the running to win an MFT shopping spree! Keep reading for today's lesson, and all the details for submitting homework for your chance to win.

Today’s Lesson: Ombré

Ombré is a time-tested technique that still somehow manages to feel both modern and innovative. There are a number of ways to add an ombré effect to your cards — from simple die-cut shapes and sentiments to full panels. Opt for a clean and simple single hue or fade from one tone into another for more dramatic appeal.

Karolyn is joining us today to share two versions of ombré — one that features a blue-hued fade and another that spotlights vivid rainbow colors. You'll notice too that she's chosen a horizontal ombré for one sample and a vertical orientation for the other. The sky's the limit for this versatile technique!

I really like the way you used a repeated word to create the ombre and my favorite is the blue one.

First familiar with Ombre was in yarn. Use it in card creations. Just posted my Ombre card.
