Primary colors are endlessly versatile. For this month's Create in Color, Sandy is mixing things up with her Dr. Ph. Martins watercolors and the super sweet Birthday Buds images from Birdie Brown.
Hello and welcome to a COLORFUL February! I’m Sandy Allnock, back again to share some coloring!
The stamp set I was inspired to use today lent itself to nice bright, intense colors so I dusted off my Dr. Ph. Martins Hydrus watercolors!
I created tags with them to take to a group that I meet with regularly where we celebrate birthdays. These will be perfect to attach to a little bag of candy!
The Ph. Martins Hydrus are watercolor – they do have inks, concentrates, and other products, but these are all I have so I can’t really tell you the difference. I bought these and was thrilled enough that I didn’t need anything else, LOL!
The bright, intense colors are beautiful but be careful as the paints are, like Inktense pencils, permanent when dry; that means it’s real easy to get a hard line if you stop working partway through.
The paints are liquid, which has some benefits - no worrying about trying to wet watercolor pans and mix particular consistencies. The color will pretty much be the same all the time straight out of the bottle; which leads to having to REALLY water them down to get any pastel colors or soft blends.
As with almost every medium, you can use a combination of red, yellow, and blue in different proportions to make neutrals – browns and greys.
Thanks so much for joining me on this little journey through painting with Hydrus watercolors…and of course the darling Birthday Buds critters!
It's Friday so I officially declare it Watercolor Weekend. Take a cue from Sandy and pull out your watercolors — show us what you can do with this forgiving coloring medium and MFT images. Tag us with #mftstamps when you upload so we can be as inspired by you as we are by Sandy!

Love the bright colors and the hint to wook with the area when still wet. It blends so naturally. Thanks Sandy
