Summer School 2018: Ombré

Summer School 2018 is back for a second week and we couldn’t be more excited to share another week of lessons and challenges!

One of our perennial favorites around here is our Summer School series. Understanding and internalizing different design concepts allows you to bring your ideas to life. With a little practice, these ideas will quickly become intuitive, leading your card designs to come together with minimal effort. Over the course of the next five days, we’ll bring you videos and projects designed to help you understand these basic principles and incorporate them into your own crafting.

Ombré is a time-tested technique that still somehow manages to feel modern and innovative. There are a number of ways to add an ombré effect to your cards — from simple die-cut shapes and sentiments to full panels. Opt for a clean and simple single hue or fade from one tone into another for more dramatic appeal.

Today’s instructor is My Favorite Things Design Team member Stephanie Klauck. Click HERE or watch below to learn two different ways to create an ombré look on your next project.

Don’t you love how a bit of monochromatic blending can result in such a dynamic finished product? Alternating the direction of the fade can produce drastically different results as well. We love how effective this simple technique is and can’t wait to see your interpretation.
