Summer School 2018: Visual Triangle

Summer School 2018 is back for a second week and we couldn’t be more excited to share another week of lessons and challenges!

One of our perennial favorites around here is our Summer School series. Understanding and internalizing different design concepts allows you to bring your ideas to life. With a little practice, these ideas will quickly become intuitive, leading your card designs to come together with minimal effort. Over the course of the next five days, we’ll bring you videos and projects designed to help you understand these basic principles and incorporate them into your own crafting.

Creating a visual triangle assists your recipient by creating a “path” for their eyes to travel, ensuring a pleasing overall view of the design. Using a trio of common elements or similar colors, placed as if at the points of a triangle, provides for an eye-pleasing experience.

Today’s instructor is My Favorite Things Design Team member Barbara Anders. Click HERE or simply watch the video below to see how Barbara incorporated the visual triangle theory into her bee-autiful card.

Did you notice that Barbara has included *two* visual triangles? Her trio of bees creates one visual triangle while the other is delineated by both clouds and the beehive. Once you start looking at designs with a critical eye, you’ll quickly be able to identify the principal of the visual triangle (as well as the rest of the lessons we’re reviewing) in action.
