A Big MFT Welcome to Stephanie

Last week, Stephanie shared a couple of vastly different, but equally amazing cards with us. This week, we are pleased to announce that she’s becoming a permanent fixture on the MFT Creative Team! Print

Beginning with our November release (that starts in less than a day!) you’ll be seeing Stephanie’s pretty face and stunning cards pop up as part of our sneak peek countdown – we’re so excited to be able to share more of her ingenuity in the months to come.

Before we leave you for the day, don’t forget to pop over to the boutique to peruse our latest Retirement Sale. You’ll find a vast array of stamp sets and Die-namics at 50% off. All of these products will be retired once they’re gone though so don’t wait long to take advantage of these incredible prices and stock up on your wish list items!

Happy shopping and we’ll see you tomorrow as we embark on our November release countdown!

Peace, Love, & Joy

Just 52 days until Christmas, but who’s counting? If you’re the type of person that enjoys making and sending holiday cards, that task is probably fairly high on your crafty to-do list. Whether you  prefer a variety of individual designs or a single design that can be mass produced, there’s probably room in your process for eye-catching designs that can be prepared and assembled relatively quickly.

Kimberly has created a beautiful card that requires minimal stamping and die cutting that is totally worthy of your card-making endeavors. A couple of panels shaped with the Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics provides the base of the card while an element from the Pierced Snowflakes Die-namics and a sentiment created with the Merry Messages stamp set completes the look. A basic color palette is elegant while minimizing the steps required to complete the look.

Spooky Shaker

Stephanie shared a gorgeous project on Monday featuring the Fresh Cut Flowers and Mason Jar Die-namics. We brought her back today with an incredibly fun interactive card perfect for the day! Print

Hi! It’s Stephanie and I’m excited to be back with another card on the My Favorite Things blog! Since today is Halloween, I thought it would be fun to create a Halloween themed card. As soon as I saw the Spooky Window Die-namics, I knew it would look awesome as a shaker card. I decided to die cut the window and fill the inside of it with sequins and glittery spiders that I cut out using the little spider die that comes as part of the Spooky Window Die-namics.

MFTHalloween

To create the shaker part of the card, I die cut the window and adhered it onto a piece of acetate slightly smaller than the window. I let it dry completely and then I added foam tape all around the outside of the window, two layers thick. The trick to making shaker cards is to make sure that when you add your foam tape (which gives it the dimension it needs to let the sequins and other items move freely around) there aren’t any spaces in between the tape. This will prevent the sequins from falling out.

MFTHalloweenClose

I layered a piece of orange glitter paper and a piece of vellum over the card base, added all the sequins into the center and then adhered the window to the top. Once it’s attached, it completely seals in all of the sequins and the shaker part of the card is done!

To complete the card, I die cut the window a second time from silver glitter paper and carefully cut out the web and spider. Using liquid glue, I adhered them on top of the black window that was already adhered to the card. I love how the silver looks against the black card stock! I decided that I liked the shaker window as the focal point and didn’t want a sentiment on the front of the card, so I left it off and stamped one on the inside instead.
