Welcome to the Party, Karin!

We’ve been featuring cards from Karin Åkesdotter all month. She’s shown to us how fabulously well she can showcase a variety of styles and products – all with equal aplomb. Today, she’s back with one more January guest post.

How great is this idea for a birthday invitation or party activity? A photo of the birthday boy provides the perfect canvas and a handful of die-cut accents created with the Photo Booth Props Die-namics (slide them into a coordinating envelope you’ve created with the You’ve Got Mail Die-namics!) allows the recipient to have some fun dressing up the man of the hour.

Wait, did I say guest post? I guess technically, this is Karin’s last guest post but that’s only because with our February release countdown (which starts in just two days!) Karin is joining us as the newest member of the design team. Welcome, Karinwe’re so glad to have you.

Bold Birthday Greetings

It’s been so fun having Karin with us this week! She’s back again today with a couple of clean and graphic designs in a fantastic palette of colors.

Check out that gorgeous, glitter ombre! The Friend Die-namics allows you to make QUICK cards that are absolute standouts. A simple stamped sentiment and a handful of colorful baubles completes this look in lickety-split fashion.

Simple layers of color are punctuated by a classic die-cut heart and stamped birthday sentiment. The Wild Things stamp set isn’t all about the animals (though, they are pretty fabulous.) There’s a great collection of versatile sentiments as well! Mix and match your supplies and see what you come up with.

It’s been a pleasure, Karin. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us!

Always in My Heart

Karin Åkesdotter is with us again today sharing two more inspiring projects.

Wild Things includes a full menagerie of furry friends for your cards and projects. I’d be lyin’ if I said I wasn’t smitten with this charming fellow. Karin’s simply layered design allows him to stand out against a colorful backdrop and Stitched Scallop Edges Die-namics grass.

A pretty scalloped window from the Peek-a-Boo Circle Windows Die-namics frames a stamped flower from the Desert Bouquet set. Karin finished the card off with a perfectly placed stamped sentiment.

Thanks again, Karin for sharing your work! I’m looking forward to seeing more later this month :) Print

Wild for Pure Innocence

The incredibly talented Karin Åkesdotter is with us today sharing two beautiful cards featuring Pure Innocence characters and some extraordinary coloring.

The Roarin’ Good Day character is perfectly framed within the charming scalloped hole Karin created with the Peek-a-Boo Circle Window Die-namics. The window puts the focus right on the beautifully colored, sweet-not-scary tiger…right where it belongs.

This darling Wild for You girl is ready for safari. Once again, Karin wows with her coloring and perfect framing. A simply stamped sentiment and a bit of added dimension make both of these Pure Innocence beauties interesting to look at and simple to assemble.

Thanks so much Karin for sharing your work with us today! Print

All-Star Greetings

Suzanne Dahlberg is with us again to show off an all-star worthy card.

Hi friends! I am back today with another fun post for My Favorite Things – this time I made a clean and simple Valentine’s Day card using the All-Star High Tops Die-namics and the Be Original stamp set. I started by stamping the sentiment onto the card base, and then, used the sneaker die to impress the image into the card on top of the greeting.

Next, I die cut the sole of the sneaker from matching card stock and adhered it to the card front. I finished things off by stamping a heart and adding the heart die cut, which was cut using the Cool Day Die-namics.

Many thanks to MFT for inviting me to guest this month – I really loved joining them and had so much fun playing with these goodies. Have an awesome day! Print

Sew Glad You’re My Friend

Laurie Willison is with us again today with a sweet and simple design – so beautiful!

Hey there friends! I am so excited to be here today with another guest post for My Favorite Things. I have a fun, super simple card to share today, using some adorable My Favorite Things goodies.

I used the Stitched with Love stamp set for this card. I love all the sentiments and details included in it. I used 3 stamps. I stamped the thimble in gray ink in the background and then added the sentiments in dark brown. The front card panel was made with the Blueprints 20 Die-namics. I layered up the stitched panel with that adorable scalloped layer and then onto a pink card base.

I added 2 little banner ends…one in pink and one vellum in the corner. I can’t get enough of these stitched dies. SO darn cute!

I hope you enjoyed my CAS card. So honored to be a guest this month and have had so much fun with these MFT stamps and dies!

Hope you all had an amazing Christmas day! Thanks so much for stopping in! Print

Happy Holidays

Suzanne Dahlberg is joining us today to share an absolutely beautiful card featuring a Birdie Brown favorite.

Hi everyone! It’s Suzanne here and it’s my pleasure to be guesting for My Favorite Things today! Have you seen this absolutely adorable set yet? It’s called Cool Day and it also has coordinating Die-namics to go along with it. I decided to break out my colored pencils for this card after stamping the images in Black Licorice Premium Dye Ink.

The MFT Natural Card Stock is an awesome alternative to true kraft – it’s probably my favorite neutral ever – and it went perfectly with this card. I stamped the snowflake image using Natural Premium Dye Ink randomly onto the base before adhering everything to the card. The Cool Day Die-namics were also used to cut the hearts from glitter paper – instant embellishments! Gotta love that!

I’ll be back next week with another project for you. Have a wonderful Christmas!

Jingle All the Way

Nichol Magouirk shared a beautiful card project a few days ago that could easily span the transition between Christmas and Valentine’s. There’s no ambiguity in today’s project though – just 6 days left until Christmas but still plenty of time left to whip up some fabulous tags like these! Print

Hi everyone! It’s Nichol here today with a guest post featuring some fun last-minute Santa see-through gift tags perfect to tie atop those presents that still need to be wrapped. I don’t know about you, but fun packaging on a gift makes me super happy! These see-through style tags would be great for any little or big ones on your gift list, and they can be hung on the tree or displayed after the presents have been opened. Love that!

To create my tags, I die cut the InstaFrame Die-namics from Wild Cherry Card Stock and Black Licorice Card Stock. I stamped the Wild Cherry frame with Wild Cherry Hybrid Ink using the Diagonal Stripes Background Stamp for a tone-on-tone effect. I stamped each with a greeting from the Jingle All the Way stamp set using Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. Next, I stamped the Black Licorice frame with “to” and “from” from the Overflowing Joy stamp set using white pigment ink.

I cut six pieces of transparency measuring 2.75” square. I stamped each piece with the Confetti Background stamp using white Staz-On Ink. By stamping all the transparency pieces and not just the ones for the front it gives the santas the illusion of “standing” in the snow! I adhered each transparency behind the opening in the frames.

I die cut the three santa images from white cardstock and Black Licorice Card Stock using the Jingle All the Way Die-namics. I colored in the santas with Copic Markers and adhered the colored santa to the Black Licorice die-cut santa. This hides the coloring and makes the back of the see-through tag look neat and clean.

I die cut some snow drifts from Whip Cream Card Stock using the Snow Drifts Die-namics, trimmed them down, and adhered them to the black frame. I adhered a santa inside each frame and topped each with the red frame.

Finally, I punched holes in the top of each tag, threaded some baker’s twine adorned with silver jingle bells through the hole, and tied some white silk ribbon around the top to finish!

I hope this has inspired you to create some fun packaging for all the loved ones on your gift list! Merry Christmas!

Sending a Flurry of Love

We’re so fortunate to have the lovely Nichol Magouirk joining us on the blog today with a perfect project to transition from Christmas into Valentine’s Day crafting. Print

I am delighted to be guest blogging here at My Favorite Things today. I have been a huge fan of MFT for a long time so getting to share a project created with the amazing MFT collection of products is a dream come true for me! For my card today I created a snowy scene that would work not only for winter but would make a lovely Valentine’s Day card as well!

I die cut my background from Grout Gray Card Stock using the largest size from the Rectangle Frames Die-namics. I set the frame aside for another project and stamped the inside piece with the Confetti Background using a white pigment ink. The confetti makes the perfect falling snow, don’t you think?!!!

I created snowy borders along the bottom of the scene by die cutting vellum and Whip Cream Card Stock with the Snow Drifts Die-namics.

I die cut and stamped the adorable little girl from the Warmest Wishes stamp set and colored her in with Copic Markers. I adhered her to the snowy scene. I wanted to use the greeting from the stamp set but couldn’t make the horizontal sentiment work! No worries…I simply cut apart each word and created a vertical greeting by stamping each word one on top of another with the Black Licorice Hybrid Ink and Wild Cherry Hybrid Ink! If I want to use the greeting in it’s original form next time, all I have to do is piece it back together on an acrylic block – easy peasy!

I die cut several hearts from Insulation Pink Card Stock, Whip Cream Card Stock, and Wild Cherry Card Stock using the Mason Jar Die-namics heart die. I colored over each one with the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Marker to make them shimmery and adhered them to my scene.

To finish my card, I die cut the frame four times from Insulation Pink Card Stock, stacked them one on top of another, and placed it around the background.

I LOVE the cute Cozy Mittens Die-namics and thought it would be fun to create some quick felt ornaments (these would make a cute gift topper too!). I die cut the mittens and snowflakes from Whip Cream and Wild Cherry felt, hand stitched the snowflakes to the mittens, and then whip stitched the two mittens together, leaving about an 1.25” opening to stuff them full of polyester fiberfill. Then I stitched the mittens closed. I think a string of these would make a fun garland too!

Thanks for having me visit MFT!!!

Nichol was kind enough to create a video of her process as well. You can watch it HERE or by playing below – enjoy!

Cards You’ll Go Nuts For

I’m so pleased to welcome Rhea Weigand to the blog today! She’s sharing two new projects that we’re just nuts about. Print

Imagine my excitement to be asked to be a guest blogger for My Favorite Things! It’s funny because I was “asked” if I would be interested….Ummmm…Let me think it over for about a half a second. All they needed to say was, “you will be guest blogging for us on December 11th.” LOL.

So here I am sharing my creativity with The My Favorite Things family and friends. It was hard to choose what to use from the generous product sent, so I did two projects. I’m really moving into the CAS look and style of designing lately and I love it.

I thought the “Nuts About You” was perfect since I’m a big fan of My Favorite Things. The stamp set is full of super cute critters and sentiments!!

I created the background from the hearts of the set and colored the solid hearts and word nuts after stamping.  The center was die cut using the STAX circles.  I think I will save this card and give it to my hubby when he does something really sweet.

Next up I made a tag card using the Pierced Traditional Tag STAX Die-namics with the Pure Innocence Overflowing Joy stamp set and Die-namics.

I decided to make it into a birthday greeting vs. the holiday sentiment.  Think outside the package and get more from your stamps.

Thank you MFT for having me today and I hope to be asked again to guest blog real soon! MWAH!
